12 weeks

Well....Yesterday I told my students I was pregnant because 1)it's getting obvious that I am larger than before and 2) other students in other classes started asking their teacher after they saw another teacher look at my tummy and do the AWWWW face.

So I put up a hang man game on the board the ended up spelling out "I am having a baby" and it took them quite a while to solve it...once they got I am having a  _a_ _"  they started freaking out. I couldn't get them to stop screaming.....about 5 of them said that their moms had guessed I was....a few of them said things like "Well, I just thought you were getting fat!" and I laughed really hard.  One of them just said that i look the same except my tummy has gone from tiny to not so small.  I thank them for their honesty.  Anyway, they are beside themselves....One of them interrupted me in the middle of class to tell me, "Mrs. G., When your baby gets old enough, tell him to play the game (i have no idea what its called) on the computer.  My baby brother plays it now that he's gettng older"  and then another kid brought me a princess pink baby outfit....and before i opened it, they asked me if i thought i was having a boy or girl. i said i had no idea but my guess is a boy.  Well, i opened it up and said "OH WELL a girl is great too!" and a boy says "Well, it doesn't matter if it's a girl or boy because you can put a boy in that princess outfit and he won't know it, Mrs. Gallegos.  He won't really care when he's that young."  I thought briefly about explaining my thoughts about dressing my infant son in a pink princess outfit, but instead just smiled and said, "You know? I've never thought of that!  Thanks :) "

So now that I am 12 weeks, I am still 2 weeks away from being done with the 3rd trimester....They baby is about the size of a lime these days.  It's face looks like a baby now, with the eyes and ears and mouth in the right location...so pretty much it's looking less alien like and more like a tiny lime-sized baby.  It will be developing its reflexes this week.  Other than that, it'll just keep doing what it does- moving all around and stuff.

I keep wondering what that's going to be like and it's cool but freaks me out a little.  What if it wants to move when I want to sleep? I mean, I guess I need to get used to not sleeping.

Ok dinner time.  :)

11 weeks

Well.....last week included running out of my principal's office and puking in the bathroom.  That was fun.  it also included being told that I am showing more than other women tend to.  I should have technically only gained up to 4 pounds but I think I've gained 6.  I don't think 2 pounds have hurt anyone.

As for baby news- the baby's iris  is developed and the eyelids are fused shut.  The skin is thicker and less transparent now....the baby is about the size of a fig.  It is about as long as the smaller side of a credit card.  Apparently it is already making facial expressions that are similar to mine and Julians.  God only knows what that looks like.

Not as much to report because the baby is more formed that before....but i think everything is good.  Until the next time :)

maternity shopping

So my pants are getting to the place where they feel very uncomfortable to wear and I am starting to look like I have a gut.  I was out to lunch with my stepmom and she suggested that we go to a maternity store....So we ventured over there and I ended up getting a ton of outfilts that I can start to wear probably next week through the end of my pregnancy....they just expand as you get bigger....and they had this 7 month pregnant belly that you put over your belly so that you could make sure that all of the clothes would fit that long....Im not sure what happens after 7 months, but I'll worry about that later!

My dad keeps bringing up that I better not "let myself go" and I am beginning to think that he has some post traumatic stress with women doing that.  I mean, perhaps my mom let herself go when she was pregnant.  I don't know if he understands that I'll inevitably gain about 30-40 pounds since now it's supposed to be a pound gained a week.  If I didn't eat my dessert a day, I suppose I could aim for 25 pounds, but let's get real people. You know I am going to have my dessert a day.

Anyway, other than some pains from my stretching uterus, no complaints here....these last few weeks have been great in comparison to the last several weeks where I wanted to heel over and die.  perhaps an exaggeration.

i'll write again with baby updates in a few days when I'm officially 11 weeks pregnant.

10 weeks

Tomorrow (Wed. marks me 10 weeks pregnant).  This is really good because they say that the most critical time is prior to ten weeks.....and he/she changes from an embryo to a fetus.  That's exciting!

Having hypertension means that I'm in the high risk preg. category....so whenever something small happens, they freak out.  I have had a rapid pulse and heartrate since last night....and I called just to ask if this was normal and ended up with them telling me that I needed to leave work and go to the Emergency Room.  I was pissed because I knew they wouldn't be able to do anything about it, but I felt very disoriented....They are switching my blood pressure medication so we will see how that changes things.  Other than that, just rest, stay hydrated, and take my pulse regulary and send them the numbers.  Oh, and more blood was drawn....the lady was an intern and asked if I minded...I asked her if people really ever say no to her....she said that lots of people do...I let her do it and she did fine....

This week my blood starts to increase by 40-50%.

As for more interesting news:  The Baby is about the size of a green grape (not the round one, but the oblong one) and measures a little over an inch now.  It moves around a lot but I won't be able to feel it yet...I have gotten mixed figures for when people start to feel the baby.  I will keep you posted on that one.  The fingers and toes are no longer webbed, but no toenails or joints yet (next week). If it's a boy, his scrotum is forming and he is secreting testosterone to prevent himself from getting girl parts.  If it's a girl, she's just chillin'.  His/her head makes up almost half its body.  Its heart has 4 chambers.  His/her teeth are starting to form inside his/her gums.

Ok, off to correct papers and watch Gilmore Girl reruns.

untitled

The other day I called my dad....you know, to catch up, etc.  And he has the- the- the guts or the lack of decency perhaps....to say to me "You better not get fat".  I say "Um.....excuse me?"  and he goes on and on about how I better not get fat or I will pay the consequences...this isn't a time to let myself go (because God knows, I was hoping to end up large and in charge!).  And I had to seriously try to explain to him that I used to eat 3 desserts a day and anything I wanted and NEVER was fat, and I do not eat nearly as poorly now....however, undoubtedly I will be a little fat for a while (pregnant and fat for a bit i suppse) but that I'll lose it.  He didn't care.....so I went into Noah's bagels (GASP! ANOTHER BAGEL??....i've been eating those my whole life and it hasn't seemed to cause a problem).  And I end up calling him back and he thught it would be a fun time to start teasing me again....so I burst into tears, in the middle of Noahs.  Julian was just sitting there trying not to laugh at me.  He did a good job.  Eventually my dad says, "Sam!  I was just teasing...Aww honey, you are hormonal.  You're hormones are all over the place...i've seen this before (I suppose with my mom...24 years ago).  So maybe he's out of practice, so I tell him as I continue to sob, "IF YOU KNOW I AM HORMONAL THEN WHY DO YOU TEASE MEEEEE".  Still causing a scene in Noahs.

Anyway, now I am off to go get my teeth cleaned in Roseville.  This is about an hour and a half drive.  I am slightly worried abut gagging when they shove the things in my mouth.  Another thing about pregnancy is that your gums bleed a lot easier....EVERY time I floss, i am spitting out tons of blood.  So I'll bet the lady has a blast working on me today.

Wednesday makes me 10 weeks preg.  I will post again then.

9 weeks

Ok...well we had another appt today.  The nurse practitioner had the honors today...she was pretty cooky.  She enjoyed putting me in my place when I showed a grimace of her shoving that plastic wand up my you know what, she goes "Oh come on, it doesn't hurt".  I started laughing.  And she pretty much told me that if I eat dessert everyday, I WILL gain 60 pounds.  Well, I guess I'm going to gain 60 pounds.

So far I have gained about 6 pounds.  And I went and got an ice cream right after the appt.  I can't help it.

The nurse also told us that Julian and I do not have great genes.  We already know this, of course, but she pretty much was wondering what on earth possessed us to procreate.

The nausea and constant peeing are getting better.  I started feeling more like a human being again this week....just a little fatter.

We saw the baby again.  He/she looks like a good sized gummy bear.  So cute haha.  I could see the little arms moving around and the baby moved a little.  Still had a strong heartbeat....I am going to try to ask julian to scan a pic to put up....it just looks like a blob in the picture, though....but it's a precious blob.

baby updates:
the upper lip is completely formed, and all of the main organs/body is pretty much formed and now is just going to develop from here on out.  The arms are getting longer (but they are still VERY tiny)  The baby gets taste buds this week.

8 weeks

I am watching a show called "I didn't know I was pregnant" and it's about this woman who finds out she's pergnant at 8 months.  All I can say is "WHAT?!!??"  She seriously refuses to believe she is pregnant when she is in LABOR.  I know there was a girl at LMU who this happened to.... She said she didn't feel sick at all....there was no movement, nothing.....she was very heavy and lost a lot of weight throughout the pregnancy.

well, i  seriously am in awe.  I can't believe that is possible!  I have been in bed before 8pm most nights and up in the middle of the night nauseuous and need to get something to eat (which is still the weirdest concept to eat when i feel like puking).  Good news is no vomitting this week.  Still dry heaving, but better than barfing all over.   Mainly just tired all the time....

The baby is about the size of a kidney bean...The baby's inner ears are forming.  His/her knees and ankles are starting to form and the finger and toes are starting as well (Although they are presently webbed).  I am pretty sure he or she is peeing in me now.  Within the next few days, the baby can turn away if something touches its face.  It apparently moves around a lot.  Swim little kidney bean haha!  Its getting testes or ovaries these days too except boys and girls will look the same for several more weeks.

Doctor's appt next Thursday.

Ok byebye!
